Naming Contest

We are planning a series of exhibits, programs, & projects to commemorate 150 years since the Civil War & the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement. The series will run from 2011 through 2015, and Swem is looking for your help in naming the series! The winner will receive a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card. The project aims to make Swem a center for discourse and share the rich primary sources available at William & Mary from these important periods in American history. Topics of upcoming exhibits that you should take into consideration when submitting your entry include: slavery at William & Mary, the home front during the Civil War, military and civilian leadership, the Battle of Williamsburg, Reconstruction, the Jim Crow era, the American experience in a global context, memory, integration at William & Mary, and much more. Contest rules: -----Entries must be submitted at https://forms.wm.edu/1744 by 11:59pm on February 27th. -----The title should be informative, identify the series, and attract attention. -----Titles should be 2-15 words in length. -----The title should not already be in use by a book, film, series, program, exhibit, or similar. -----If the title is a quotation taken from a letter, diary, or other document, include a citation to the document in your submission. -----The contest is open to William & Mary students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public. A winner from all entries will be chosen by Swem Library staff. In the case of duplicate submissions, the first person to have submitted the winning name will be awarded the prize. Entrants may not reserve any rights in or to the submission. The decision of the judges is final.
