Camp RFID Summer Diaries: Liz Williams

Our summer staff share their experiences on spending the summer days in the Swem stacks, placing RFID tags on over a million books!

Name: Liz

Department/Position: RFID student assistant

What do you think about the RFID project?

It sounds exciting! Hopefully it’ll prove to be a helpful undertaking for both students and staff.

Describe what it has been like to be a part of the RFID team.

So far, so good! It’s great to get to work with people again. Library people are the best people in my opinion.

What has been your favorite experience with the RFID team so far?

My favorite experience so far with the team is simply getting to know everyone. It's not often that you make incredible friendships while working a summer job, and I'm so lucky to love the people I work with. My favorite part of my job is truly laughing with my coworkers!

What is the most interesting new thing you’ve learned about the library?

Apparently Swem has around 1.3 million books! For a three story library that seems like a TON of books.

What is your favorite part about working at the library?

I don’t think I realized how many things I’m interested in until I started shelving books in different parts of the library! The cookbooks are so much fun to browse. I also genuinely love my coworkers--it’s nice walking into work knowing friends will greet you.

Do you have any fun plans for the summer?

I’m moving to Pittsburgh at the end of July to start my internship! So, not much fun, just a lot of boxes and bubble wrap.
