Introducing Rosie Liljenquist, Publishing & Open Access Librarian

Posted on October 12, 2021

In this post, we introduce W&M Libraries' new Publishing & Open Access Librarian, Rosie Liljenquist!

Name: Rosie Liljenquist

Title: Publishing & Open Access Librarian

What does your job entail?

My job entails managing the scholarly output of William & Mary. This involves supporting scholarship from a variety of places including instruction, research assistance, copyright and fair use compliance, and research dissemination. It involves working with people (my favorite) and technology (my second favorite).

What interests you most about your job?

I love doing research and consider myself something of a research wizard. I enjoy helping others with all aspects of their own research from brainstorming to licensing to dissemination.

What do you hope to accomplish in your first year?

I hope to build relationships and foster collaborations with faculty and students. I’d also like to help increase the impact of the campus’s research and scholarship.

Tell us a little about your work background:

I received a Masters of Science in Information Management from the University of Glasgow in Scotland where I trained as both a librarian and an archivist. I have worked in every department of a library, both public and academic, from circulation to IT, research and instruction to scholarly communications. I have always wanted to be a librarian and am excited to get to work at William & Mary.

What attracted you to W&M?

I am attracted to W&M because of its history, research and instruction environment, and beautiful campus. I have spent a little time in VA previously and have been drawn to the beauty of the Tidewater area; it’s so different from the American West. W&M is well-known and well-regarded and I wanted to come to a place that I could be challenged and thrive all at the same time.

What do you like to do in your free time?

When I’m not chasing a literal handful of children, I enjoy walking my spaniels, cooking comforting meals, sewing colorful quilts, and reading good books.
