Our summer staff share their experiences on spending the summer days in the Swem stacks, placing RFID tags on over a million books!

Name: Mae Dye

Year: Class of 2022

Pronouns: She/her

Department/Position: Circulation, RFID Team

What do you think about the RFID project?

I think the RFID project is a great way to make resources more easily accessible to patrons. While I think this project is going to be a lot of work for the RFID team, it will be really rewarding to have all the books in the library easier to check out.

Describe what it’s been like to be a part of the RFID team.

I think working in the library as part of the RFID team is a really great experience. Libraries are such inclusive and accepting spaces, and this Swem library is a perfect example of this. While working in the library can sometimes be tedious the RFID team as a whole is always finding ways to laugh and make the experience enjoyable.

What was your favorite experience with the RFID team so far?

While all the work we have been doing has been a fun part of this experience, my favorite thing so far has been team building. At the beginning of the summer, the RFID team used these team-building exercises to form close friendships and it also helped me realize how creative my coworkers are.

What is the most interesting new thing you’ve learned about the library?

I discovered that we have a cardboard cutout of Ryan Gosling behind the circulation desk; he even has a Swem student assistant name tag.

What is your favorite part about working at the library?

My favorite part of this job has been getting to know my coworkers.  We have such a unique group of people, and we all seem to work really well together.  Staff meetings usually end with all of us laughing, while still trying to get work done.

Do you have any fun plans for the summer?

My fun plans for the summer are to read as many books as possible and watch Mamma Mia on repeat.
