Works at… My job title is the Ask-A-Librarian Intern and my responsibilities consist of providing research assistance and reference help to library users and working on special projects.
Background… I’m a corn-fed midwesterner and I’ve spent most of my life in Indiana, but have roots all over and I’m currently located in the triangle in North Carolina. I have a cat named Mayonnaise and when I’m not hanging out with him and my husband, I’m probably reading, doing pottery, or riding my bike. I love gravel cycling and riding on greenways, and you’re sure to lose an hour of your time if you start talking to me about bikes.
Studied at… I studied English and Spanish at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. If you know the show Parks and Recreation, the map of Pawnee is actually the map of Muncie upside down! Later, I got my MA in Literacy and Pedagogy at Michigan State University and my MSLS at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Teaching data literacy and research education are my chief priorities as a librarian.
Why W&M? The College of William & Mary is one of the oldest educational institutions in the US and the oldest in the South and has educated presidents. The students at this university are academically impressive and dedicated to their studies. As a librarian, it’s always my goal to scaffold literacy education and research resources for dedicated students. To be able to assist students of this caliber on their research journey is a true honor.
Fun Facts… Sharks are my favorite animals and I know all about their anatomy, the birth types of different sharks, and I am great at identifying sharks. I've even dissected a couple in college labs. My favorite sharks are Lemon sharks, Thresher sharks, and Leopard sharks.
Most frequently checked out library book… The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. The entire Hainish Cycle is pretty good, but I return to this book over and over, particularly in the winter.
Listening to right now… I’m a huge fan of math rock, but I’ve ventured more into math pop lately. Not a day has gone by this summer that I haven’t listened to “Peggy” or “Honey” by Orchards.
Favorite Social Media Platform… Strava. If you know, you know!
