Remote Student Resources

As you study remotely, the Libraries provide you with expert help and services.

Interlibrary Loan

We can deliver journal articles and book chapters from other libraries directly to you at no charge. Request non-W&M items through the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) portal.

If you are not in Williamsburg, you can get print copies of books from these resources:

  • VIVA's Cooperative Borrowing Program
  • Many of Virginia's academic libraries will let you check out books directly from them since W&M is a participating institution
  • Your local public library - most have an ILL service available

Online Materials and Tools

W&M Libraries have thousands of books, articles, streaming audio and video, and more to support your curiosity and learning.

  • W&M Libraries Search
Use the filters on the left-hand side of the search results screen to focus on books, eBooks, streaming audio or video, and other online resources. You can also use the “Online Only” tab to limit your results to those items that are only available online.
  • Articles & Research Databases
We have hundreds of databases that provide access to digital articles, video, and more!
  • Research Guides
Research Guides are lists of databases, links, and other resources that align with a particular subject or course.
  • Off-Campus Access
If you are not on campus, you can still log in via the Libraries website using your W&M credentials to access library databases and other resources!

Renew Books Online

You can also renew your books online - just log into your Library Account. You will see your active loans displayed on the Loans section. Look for the title you need to renew and click renew. You can also renew all your active loans by selecting Renew All.

Research Support

If you need help getting started or finding specific information or data for an assignment, reach out to a Librarian for further assistance. Our librarians can answer your questions through the Ask a Librarian chat service or as part of a remote research consultation (available via email or Zoom).
