Documenting life during COVID-19

Speech bubble with the words "Life During Covid-19" inside

As we all adjust to the new realities imposed by the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, William & Mary Libraries invite all members of the William & Mary and greater Williamsburg community to add their voices to the Special Collections. We welcome submissions of all forms of personal reflections to add to the physical and digital archives in the Special Collections Research Center in Swem Library.

Your experience is just that – yours – and how you record it is up to you! Feel free to capture your memories in whatever way you choose, and share and reflect on any part of your experience. Ideas include but are not limited to:

  • Prose
  • Poetry
  • Drawing
  • Scrapbooking
  • Photography
  • Audio/video
  • Other accounts of day-to-day life
Handwritten page of a diary with entries from October 1918 detailing the war effort and flu pandemic
Diary of Pearl Johntz (1883-1965) who lived in Parsons, Kansas, not too far from Kansas City. Pearl was the captain of a Red Cross canteen in charge of feeding soldiers who came through Parsons. There is much concerning her daughter Mary (1916-1996).  Pearl and her daughter Mary made it safely through the flu epidemic as did Harry. From the Special Collections Research Center.

Your memories matter, and your experiences are an important part of our shared history. As part of the records preserved in the Special Collections, your materials will be an accessible part of the historic record and contribute to research for years to come.
