Swem Makerspace

William & Mary Libraries are pleased to offer 3D printers in Swem Library for use by all current students, staff, and faculty.  We offer a portable 3D printer for checkout at the Circulation Desk, as well as a Makerspace room equipped with larger printers. The Makerspace is in room #139 next to the Learning Center on the main floor of Swem. The following printers are available:

  • Ultimaker 2 Go

  • Ultimaker 2+

  • Makerbot Replicator +

Using a 3D printer is a fun, engaging, and creative experience. However, 3D printers and successful prints do require a small amount of background knowledge for optimal performance. To ensure that our printers and patrons stay happy, W&M libraries require that all patrons who wish to schedule print time or check out a printer attend a short training session and sign a user agreement.

Training Sessions

Swem Library will conduct 30 minute training sessions every Thursday in February in the Makerspace room (#139). Training will start every half hour from 9:30am to 3:00pm.

Reserve a 3D Printer

Once you've completed training, you can reserve time on one of the printers in Swem's Makerspace. The library requires 24 advance notice for reserving a printer, and asks that you stay with the printer the entire time your project is printing. This helps protect the printers from potential damage when an object fails to print.
