This cartouche adorns the l775 map of Virginia
by Joshua Fry and Peter Jefferson. This map is considered the best cartographic
representation of Virginia in the eighteenth century. Both Fry and Jefferson
were surveyors. Fry taught mathematics at the College of William and Mary.
Peter Jefferson was the father of Thomas Jefferson.
