Page from St. George Tucker's Yorktown Diary. St. George
Tucker's diary is the best contemporary account by a participant in this
decisive battle of the American Revolution. Trained in law and serving
as a colonel in the militia, Tucker was meticulous in his presentation
of detail. His diary is particularly valuable as a primary source, since,
unlike many other soldiers at the final battle, Tucker had often visited
Yorktown from nearby Williamsburg, and was familiar with the town and its
residents.
