The Alpha Club

The men's literary societies did not admit women, so the female students formed their own, The Alpha Club. All women belonged and it served as a literary, music, and dramatic society. Through the years, its functions were taken over by smaller specialized clubs and Alpha became an honorary society. It was the precursor to a chapter of Mortar Board, the national organization which recognizes service, scholarship and leadership.
