The Linguistics Program at William & Mary is administered through the Roy R. Charles Center.

"Linguistics is the study of language both as a faculty of mind and as a social institution. Linguistics at William and Mary is administered through the Roy R. Charles Center as an interdisciplinary program.

"A major in linguistics provides students with a broad background in the structure and use of human language. Linguistics students learn how to use analytical tools proper to the study of language components, such as speech sounds, word formation, and sentence structure. They also become familiar with a variety of methods for investigating the function and significance of language in human affairs." [1]
