More College Traditions from the SCRC Wiki

The Swem Library's Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) Wiki provides links to select frequently asked questions and quick facts from material in the department's manuscripts, university archives, and rare books collections. Presently, much of the information in the SCRC Wiki is about or related to William & Mary along with a smaller amount of information related to collections in the SCRC. More information is added on a regular basis and you are bound to find something of interest here.

The first pages created in the wiki were campus buildings and landmarks, lists of honorary degree recipients and commencement speakers with new pages added on a regular basis, such as biographical pages for all presidents of William & Mary from the first, Rev. James Blair, to the current president, Katherine A. Rowe.

More campus buildings from the SCRC Wiki

To get started, you may want to check out some of the categories used to organize information in this wiki with William and Mary buildings currently holding the top spot as the largest category. However, even the information on these pages is not complete as new information continues to be uncovered in the SCRC's collections and elsewhere.

More About the Special Collections Research Center

Swem Library's Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) at William & Mary is a learning lab for students, much like a science lab, except the raw materials we offer for your experimentation and observation are original manuscripts, photographs, rare books, sheet music, maps, and other unique or rare treasures documenting humanity's history and culture.

Some pages formerly contained in this wiki related to administration of the SCRC, including pages related to Archon, DSpace, accessioning and processing, and material pulled for classes and other visitors were moved to the SCRC Staff Wiki in July 2009.

A Note About The Contents Of This Wiki
The information available in this wiki is the best available from known documents and sources at the time it was written. Unfortunately, many of the early original records of William & Mary were destroyed by fires, military occupation, and the normal effects of time. Information in this wiki is not complete as new information continues to be uncovered in Swem Library's Special Collections Research Center and elsewhere. Researchers are strongly encouraged to use the Special Collections search tools for their research as the information contained in this wiki is by no means comprehensive.
