Lord Botetourt Award

The Lord Botetourt Award, begun in 1997, is presented to individuals or institutions that embody the spirit of Norborne Botetourt, Baron de Berkeley, a colonial governor of Virginia as well as rector and a friend of William & Mary. It is given to non-alumni who have contributed to the college’s advancement and prosperity.

1997 Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans, awarded to Ms. Evans, who through a foundation has given the College a total of $10.8 million over the years; V. Earl Dickinson

1998 Wendy Reves; Anheuser Busch Companies, Incorporated

1999 Newport News Shipbuilding

2000 Colonial Williamsburg Foundation

2001 Jack Borgenicht, Businessman

2002 Arthur H. Bryant II; McKinsey & Company, Incorporated. Eric Friberg, Business School Trustee Chairman, led a McKinsey team in an operations analysis for the College’s Board of Visitors.

2003 Vincent F. Callahan, Jr., Virginia State Delegate (R-Fairfax), over his 35 years in the General Assembly, has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to Virginia higher education

2004 not awarded

2005 Lois Critchfield, awarded to Ms. Critchfield for her help in broadening the knowledge and understanding of the William and Mary community by sharing her expertise on and network of contacts in the Middle East.

2006 Frank Batten. Mr. Batten generously has shared his deeply philanthropic spirit with the College by establishing the Batten Foundation Undergraduate Research Scholarship in 1992 and more recently funding an endowment for the master’s of business administration program at the Mason School of Business.

2014 E. Morgan Massey, chairman of Evan Energy Company and former chairman and CEO of A.T. Massey Coal Company
