Can you produce a film in 24 hours?

Published on

The William & Mary Global Film Festival, in partnership with Swem Library's Media Center, bring you the 24 Speed Filmmaking Competition. Teams of W&M students and alumni will have 24 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film. The competition will start at the Swem Library Ford Classroom at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. All films must be finished by 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10.

"24 Speed is a fun, exciting competition because all of the action takes place within a short time frame. It requires a lot of planning and the ability to think on your feet. It's also a great opportunity for novice filmmakers to explore the process in a fun and collaborative way," said Troy Davis, Swem Media Center director. "I'm excited to see what the teams produce. Each year I am impressed by the final products."

Films may be two to four minutes long. Each team will be given a prop and line of dialogue that must be used in their film, as well as a genre for their film.

A public screening of the films will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14 in the Kimball Theatre in Merchants Square. Awards will be announced on Sunday, Feb. 17 during the Global Film Festival Closing reception.

Full details and contest rules can be found on the Film Festival website.
