Homecoming is here

Published on

It is Homecoming week at William & Mary, and there are a lot of activities planned, from leadership symposia and department open houses to the Homecoming Parade and a children’s carnival. Many of these events are free and open to everyone. Here at Swem Library, we are celebrating Homecoming with a very special open house.

On Saturday, Oct. 24 join us for our Swem Library Authors Showcase! This event features several alumni and faculty authors:

  • Barbara King, W&M Chancellor Professor of Anthropology and author of “How Animals Grieve” and “Being with Animals”
  • Forrest Pritchard ’96, author of “Gaining Ground” and “Growing Tomorrow”
  • Susan Wise Bauer M.A. ’94, Ph.D. ‘07, author of “The Story of Western Science” and “The Well-Educated Mind”
  • Kathryn Erskine ’80, children’s book author of “The Badger Knight,” “Seeing Red” and “Mockingbird”

Enjoy coffee and donuts and conversation with the authors. The event will be held from 9-11 a.m. in the Botetourt Gallery, ground floor. Books will be available for purchase on-site through the W&M Bookstore. Authors will be signing copies of their books.

While you're here, stop by our Special Collections Research Center, located on the first floor. From 9-11 a.m. you'll have the opportunity to see our rare treasures out on display. We will showcase select items from university archives, as well as our manuscript and rare book collections, highlighting examples of philanthropy and firsts at William & Mary.
