What is your position at W&M Libraries? I am an Instruction & Research Librarian, working with the Government, Public Policy and International Relations departments.
Background? I am a native of the Rust Belt. Youngstown, Ohio is home. While most of my life has been spent in various parts of Ohio, my family and I have spent the last few years wandering the globe. This includes time in England, and the last two years in Fairbanks, Alaska, where I served in a faculty role as an Instruction Librarian. We are very happy to be settling here in Williamsburg!
Where did you study? My B.S. and M.Ed. are from The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!). I am also a proud graduate of the Information School at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, where I earned my Master’s in Librarianship.
Why William & Mary? There’s the obvious answer, which is the history and prestige of this university. That speaks for itself, and is undeniable when you step onto this beautiful campus. Who wouldn’t want to work at a place like this? More importantly, though, was the draw of this Research & Instruction team, their values and the way they work. The focus on collaboration, innovation, and growth is important to me and the way I work. I’m grateful to be joining the team!
Fun facts: Apart from my wife and two boys, my greatest passion in life is Manchester United Football Club. Most weekend mornings my boys and I are up early cheering them on from the couch. This summer I drove 4600 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska to Williamsburg…incredible trip, ask me about it! I spent ten years teaching in public schools in Tennessee and Ohio before my career in libraries!
Most frequently checked out library book: Ooo, controversial opinion here, but I’m not much of a re-reader. I would, however, have a most frequently checked out genre. I’m a big fan of crime fiction/noir. Scandi noir, southern noir, classic British detective novels, etc. If someone has been murdered, something has been stolen, or something seedy is afoot, I’m reading it.
Currently listening to: Right now, it’s most often Noah Kahan’s new album, but Waxahatchee, Watchhouse, and Caamp are frequently in the rotation right now too.
