What is your position at W&M Libraries? I am the University Archivist in William & Mary Libraries' Special Collections Research Center and am responsible for collecting and preserving materials that document the history of William & Mary!
Background? I’m originally from Iowa, but spent the last 10+ years living in Florida before making the move to Williamsburg. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me watching TV or movies, reading, playing board games and video games, or exploring!
Where did you study? I earned my bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Florida Gulf Coast University, where I discovered my passion for archives and preserving history, and then received my Master of Science in Information Science from Florida State University.
Why William & Mary? William & Mary’s rich history is certainly part of the appeal, but what excited me most was the opportunity to work with a vibrant campus community. It’s easy to overlook the importance of everyday moments, whether you’re starting a new club, mentoring students, conducting research, participating in or creating new traditions, or simply making meaningful connections, you’re contributing to the story of William & Mary. You don’t have to be centuries old to make history; you’re already doing it! I’m grateful for the opportunity to help preserve those stories so future generations can understand what makes this community so special.
Fun facts: I've traveled to six countries so far: Ireland, Wales, England, France, Switzerland, and Greece, and I'm excited to make it seven with a trip to Taiwan later this year! I've recently taken up linocut printmaking and am having a lot of fun learning new techniques and experimenting with different designs. This year, I taught myself how to solve a Rubik's Cube. My current personal best is under two minutes!
Most frequently checked out library book: I’m actually not much of a re-reader unless a story really sticks with me. My shelves are usually filled with mystery fiction, thrillers, contemporary and historical romance, and historical fiction. Right now, I’m reading Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth, and I’m always happy to add another recommendation to my ever-growing reading list.
Currently listening to: The better question might be: what aren’t I listening to? My playlists are all over the place, but recently I’ve been listening to a lot of R&B and neo-soul. Also, I love throwbacks of any kind! I usually have music or an audiobook playing any chance I get!
