W&M Press’ College of William & Mary: A History Celebrated in Library Publishing Showcase Week

College History book in this year's showcase

The William & Mary Press book The College of William and Mary: A History, Volume 1&2 was one of nearly 40 projects highlighted by the Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) during the inaugural Library Publishing Showcase Week, held February 23–27, 2026. The week-long celebration showcases the creativity, innovation, and impact of library publishing programs. Three books published by W&M Press are featured in different categories throughout the week.

The College of William & Mary: A History is a two-volume history of the College of William & Mary, published in 1993 to celebrate its tercentenary, shares the history of William & Mary's first three centuries by Susan H. Godson, Ludwell H. Johnson, Richard B. Sherman, Thad W. Tate, and Helen C. Walker. W&M Press republished its volumes as a digital edition after it became out of print and inaccessible. The rich text has already been adopted by courses on campus. It was featured as part of Cultivating Commons category, which highlights how library publishing can revive out of print works and archival collections by digitizing them and making them freely available. Library Publishing Showcase Week highlights how library publishing supports authors, students, researchers, and scholarly communities. Participants featured by LPC were selected from submissions across the LPC community, reflecting the breadth of innovative work in library publishing. The week coincided with the launch of the new library publishing advocacy website, Library Publishing Creates, which hosts Library Publishing Showcase Week content and will continue as a hub for resources and inspiration across the LPC community and beyond.
