W&M Press’ Mvskoke Language Patterns Celebrated in Library Publishing Showcase Week

Mvskoke language book featured in Library Publishing Showcase week

The William & Mary Press book Mvskoke Language Patterns was one of nearly 40 projects highlighted by the Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) during the inaugural Library Publishing Showcase Week, held February 23–27, 2026. The week-long celebration showcases the creativity, innovation, and impact of library publishing programs. Three books published by W&M Press are featured in different categories throughout the week.

Mvskoke Language Patterns by Jack Martin is a resource for those learning Mvskoke, a critically endangered language, spoken in east-central Oklahoma by members of the Muscogee Nation. Designed to help those learning their heritage language, it describes the alphabet and basic patterns speakers use in daily conversation, and includes a collection of phrases. There are few resources to study the language. The inclusion of audio files to support pronunciation practice provides a more complete guide to learning the language. It was featured as part of Responding to the Community category, which highlights how library publishing supports the needs of their communities. Library Publishing Showcase Week highlights how library publishing supports authors, students, researchers, and scholarly communities. Participants featured by LPC were selected from submissions across the LPC community, reflecting the breadth of innovative work in library publishing. The week coincided with the launch of the new library publishing advocacy website, Library Publishing Creates, which hosts Library Publishing Showcase Week content and will continue as a hub for resources and inspiration across the LPC community and beyond.
