Gallup Panel COVID 19 Survey Data and Methodology

Beginning March 13, 2020, Gallup began daily surveys of random samples of US adults (18+), who were already members of the Gallup Panel, about their lives during the COVID-19 crisis.

  • March 13 – April 5, 2020: Approximately 1,200 daily completes were collected from 3,000 Gallup Panel members.
  • April 6 – April 26, 2020: Approximately 1,200 daily completes were collected from 2,500 Gallup Panel members. 
  • April 27 – August 16, 2020: Approximately 500 daily completes were collected from 1,250 Gallup Panel members.
  • August 17 – December 31, 2021: Approximately 3,600 monthly completes (typically surveyed during the last two weeks of the month) were collected from 12,000 Gallup Panel members.
  • Beginning 2022: Approximately 3,4000 quarterly completes are collected with 8,000 Gallup Panel members. 

The survey asks questions assessing the crisis, social distancing, COVID-19 vaccines, personal and financial disruption, workplace change and disruption, U.S. COVID-19 public policy and leadership, COVID-19 and the economy, COVID-19 and the media, and the wellbeing of U.S. adults and children. 

It is a web-administered simple random sample survey of Gallup Panel members. The Gallup Panel is a probability-based nationally representative panel of U.S. adults. Data collection in this survey has undergone two subsequent revisions since its inception. The survey is fielded with an English-language questionnaire only. 

Gallup Panel COVID-19 Survey microdata are provided in SPSS .sav and Stata .dta formats. 

Details

Before using these datasets, please be aware of the following restrictions:

  • Only William & Mary faculty, staff, and students may download, use, and manipulate the data.
  • You may create reports and publish externally, redistribute, and manipulate such reports, so long as such externally distributed reports do not contain only Gallup data and so long as Gallup data are not included in a report in a quantity or specificity that could reasonably be deemed to be a substitute for acquiring the data from Gallup.
  • William & Mary affiliates may not share Gallup data with any third party. 
  • Reports must include attribution when Gallup data are included without modification or are used as a direct source of analysis.
