Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) lets us get items for you from other libraries. Ready to make a request? You have a couple of options:
- You can request items through the library catalog by logging in to the catalog and using the "Request" button on the item record.
- If you can't find the item in the catalog but have some basic info about the item, you can login to our InterLibrary Loan system (ILLiad) and make a request. Sign in to ILLiad with your W&M ID using the link below:
What can I request?
You can request any material such as books, articles, DVDs, etc. that are not available at a W&M library. (To request microfilm or microfiche, use the book request form.)
Faculty and staff can also request books or DVDs available at Swem or the Law Library to be delivered to your campus mailbox through our Library Express Delivery Service. Requests for journal articles and book chapters will be scanned and delivered electronically. If you are not able to pick up materials on campus, refer to our services for remote users.
Who can make requests?
Only William & Mary faculty (current and emeritus), staff and students can make requests for materials and deliveries. W&M Law school faculty, students and staff should contact that library directly for these services.
When will I receive my materials?
Delivery times vary but most articles are available electronically within 2-3 days. Many books arrive in 5 days or less.
Where do I pick up my materials?
Items designated as "IN LIBRARY USE ONLY" will be held at the circulation desk for use in Swem Library. Other items requested by faculty and staff will be delivered directly to a campus mailbox. (To opt out of our faculty/staff delivery service, please contact us.) Materials received for VIMS users will be delivered to Hargis Library. For all other patrons, you or an authorized user designated in your ILLiad account can pick up your materials from the circulation desk. Please bring a photo ID when you pick up your items.
