Replacement Charges

What is the process for lost or damaged items?

We will accept replacement copies of lost or damaged items. If you plan on purchasing a replacement copy, please contact the circulation desk.

For lost items, patrons will be charged the replacement fee, a $20 processing fee, and any overdue charges, unless otherwise stated. For most items, the replacement fees is determined by the Amazon list price of the item. This includes:

  • Books
  • DVDs
  • Audio Recordings
  • Reserve Equipment

There are, however, some exceptions. These exceptions include:

Material Fee
VHS & Laserdisc Amazon.com list price for DVD
Apple Equipment (Circulation) Apple.com list price
Out of Print Books Coordinate with library staff
Government Documents Coordinate with library staff
Headphones (Circulation) $45
Locker Keys $45 (includes processing)
Assigned Study Keys up to $45 (includes processing)
Dissertations & Theses $75 (includes processing)
Music Scores $40 (flat fee)
Music CDs $25 (flat fee)

When will I be billed?

You will be notified that your materials are late at 1, 5, 10, and 20 days overdue. You can contact the circulation desk at any time during this period and request a renewal. Once materials are 2 weeks overdue, you will be billed for the items and your library privileges will be suspended. A bill will be sent to to the Bursar's Office and your library account will be blocked until you pay the replacement costs at the Cashier's Office. If you do not pay the Bursar's Office by the deadline specified by their office, your bill will be sent to a third party collection agency. At this point, we cannot accept the book back or adjust your library bill.

What if I find an item after I've paid for it?

  • If you find the item within 90 days of payment, you are eligible for a refund of the replacement cost (not including processing fees or overdue fines).
  • Reserves materials and assigned study keys are not eligible for refunds.

For more details on replacement charges or for information on replacement charges for other materials, please contact the circulation desk.
