Parking on campus: Know the rules

Published on

There's nothing more frustrating than getting a parking ticket -- especially when paying it may mean skipping your daily latte every morning for a month. Here at Swem Library, we want to remind our visitors of campus parking rules.

Parking decals are required from 7:30 a.m. on Monday until 5 p.m. on Friday. If you visit the library on Friday after 5 p.m. or on the weekend, you do not need a parking decal. Many visitors assume decals are not required after 5 p.m. on weekdays, but that exemption only applies to Friday evenings.

What if you don’t have a parking decal and want to visit Swem during the week? There are a few options:

  • 2 metered parking spaces on the street directly behind the library (30 minute maximum)
  • 6 metered spaces in front of the Muscarelle Museum (60 minute maximum)
  • Obtain a parking permit at: (visitor parking passes are $5)
    • W&M Parking Services, 201 Ukrop Way (attached to parking garage), Monday-Thursday, 7:45 a.m.-6 p.m. & Friday, 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (closed weekends; visit Campus Police for passes after 6 p.m. weekdays or on weekends)

For more information on campus parking, visit wm.edu/offices/auxiliary/parkingandtransportation or call Swem at (757) 221-3072.

Make your visit to Swem as easy and enjoyable as possible by knowing and following campus parking rules.
