Swem offers film production workshops for teens

Published on

As part of the 2013 William & Mary Global Film Festival, Swem Library is offering free film production workshops for local teens participating in the festival’s youth filmmaking project.

In support of this year’s festival theme, “Film & Youth,” the Global Film Festival has launched a youth filmmaking project, designed to encourage and assist teens in producing short films about the things they love to do. Selected films will be screened and judged by a jury of local and guest celebrity filmmakers, with teen filmmakers eligible for prizes and awards.

A workshop on post-production will be held Saturday, Nov. 17 from 1-4 p.m. in the library’s Media Center (ground floor). A previous workshop on pre-production and production was held on Nov. 3. The upcoming workshop will cover the process of editing and adding a soundtrack. Students are encouraged to bring their original footage, as they will have the opportunity to use the center's equipment. This workshop is free and open to area middle and high school students.

The film festival, to be held Feb. 14-17 at the Kimball Theatre, will feature films from around the world, live performances, receptions and presentations by invited filmmakers.
