Summer projects at Swem Library

Published on

Summertime at William & Mary means a slightly quieter campus. But at Swem Library, we are using this “downtime” to tackle a number of projects. Here are some highlights of what’s happening in the library:

  • Several areas of the library have received fresh coats of paint. Check out the new, bright accent colors throughout the building including the blue walls by the restrooms and apple green walls near the stairs. These accent walls were strategically chosen to help visitors navigate the building. Let us know what you think by sending a tweet to @SwemLibrary!
  • A project to repair the HVAC system in our Special Collections Research Center has begun, and will continue through August.
  • We are installing new security cameras throughout the library, which will help ensure the security of our visitors.
  • We are installing two new water bottle filling stations on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Keeping our patrons hydrated and being eco-friendly – it’s a win-win!
  • We have purchased two additional mobile LCD carts for presentations and video conferencing to enhance teaching and meeting capabilities.
  • We have added flat screens to four more group study rooms: Rooms 134A, 134D, 239 and 247.
  • We have purchased additional portable whiteboards (both large and small sizes) for use throughout the library. These are very popular with students!
  • We are reupholstering many chairs that have gotten frayed from frequent use. That’s a clear sign our students love to spend their time in our space!
  • We are installing a new projection system and screen in the Botetourt Theater to give us the capacity to host speakers and other programs in this unique space.

That’s just a few of the projects happening right now at Swem. Come by and visit us during the summer!
