Family Weekend at Swem

Published on

We are looking forward to welcoming students and their families to our beautiful facility during the College’s Family Weekend, Sept. 20-22! Below are the free activities happening at Swem Library that weekend.

Stop by Swem for our Open House Kick-off on Friday, Sept. 20 from 3-6 p.m. Students are invited to show their families their “home away from the dorm” while enjoying lemonade, cookies & brownies. Library staff will be in the lobby to greet our visitors. The first 100 people will receive a free Swem tote bag!

Our highly popular behind-the-scenes tours of Special Collections will be taking place on Friday at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. During this 45-minute tour you will have the opportunity to see some of our treasures including rare books and university memorabilia. These tours fill up quickly, so sign up today by calling 221-3094 or emailing acschi@wm.edu. (Update: Special Collections tours are now full!)

If you can’t make it Friday, stop by Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon to meet our staff and take a self-guided tour of the library. You can also sign up for one of the Special Collections tours offered that day at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sign up at 221-3094 or acschi@wm.edu. (Update: Special Collections tours are now full!)

We also have a special treat for families on Saturday: At 2 p.m. we will be showing "101 Dalmatians" (1996) in our Botetourt Theater, ground floor. This film is part of our Glenn Close Film Festival honoring W&M alumna and 2013 Cheek Medal Award recipient Glenn Close. Free, no tickets needed.
