Swem Library will be hosting two information sessions for grant opportunities to support the incorporation of open educational resources (OER) into faculty course(s) for the 2015-16 academic year. Supported by the Provost’s Creative Adaptation Fund, Swem Library is offering 18 grants of $1,000 as well as training and professional support to facilitate compelling projects.
OER are free, open, customizable, and high quality alternatives to traditional textbooks. By promoting greater access to material, reducing costs, and leveraging the expertise of scholarly communities, OER are an innovative tool to address rising costs while advancing faculty instructional goals.
These information sessions will provide an overview of what constitutes OER, some examples of their implementation, as well as introduction to some of the possibilities of teaching with OER. This will be followed by an explanation of how we will support your own plans for OER exploration and implementation and the brief application process.
Grant funded projects could include
• identifying and adapting existing OER for your course,
• refining and openly publishing OER that you have developed and are already using,
• and/or exploring currently licensed materials for your course.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND.
All faculty members and instructors interested in exploring the possibilities of teaching with OER, reducing textbook costs for their students, or just OER curious are welcome to attend.

Both sessions will be held in the Cox Classroom of the new Media Center on the ground floor of Swem Library.
