In this post, we introduce W&M Libraries' new metadata specialist, Natalie Rue!

Title: Metadata Specialist
What does your job entail?
I will be sorting through our catalogue and databases to make sure that they have the accurate descriptions, keywords, author names, dates and other information. I will be cross training quite a bit as well in cataloging and web development. The Metadata Specialist position is relatively new, so I will be exploring what W&M Libraries' data needs are with my team.
What interests you most about your job?
I love being able to organize data and information, especially when I know my work makes our resources at W&M Libraries that much more accessible to our community. I joke that organizing data is catharsis for my brain.
What do you hope to accomplish in your first year?
I hope to help establish a strong foundation again for data management at W&M Libraries. The specialists before me have created a framework a few years ago - now I just need to update and bring our resources and data into the present.
Tell us a little about your work background:
My first time working in libraries was when I participated in the W&M Libraries Mosaic Internship after my freshman year. I really enjoyed my time at W&M Libraires, so I got a part time job working as an External Relations Student assistant my sophomore to senior year. Once I graduated, I worked both at Williamsburg Regional Library and worked at Aroma's Coffeehouse in Merchant Square. I knew I wanted to come back to academic libraries though, and I can happily say I am here!
What attracted you to W&M?
I have a wonderful mentors and friends who work here at W&M Libraries. There is also something to be said in how passionate the W&M community is in their niche interests. I really enjoy that I'm always learning about new research in various disciplines I normally wouldn't have looked into myself.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I often find myself watching YouTube commentary videos, visiting local shops around town, or befriending a stranger while waiting in line for coffee. If you see me, please come say hello; I love exchanging stories!
