Welcome Kat Knoerl: Our New Delivery & Stacks Coordinator

Works at…
I am the Delivery and Stacks Coordinator in the Circulation Department at Swem Library. I oversee our document delivery team and manage the physical collection here at Swem.

Background…
I grew up in northern Virginia, but my family is from Buffalo, New York. I’m the youngest in my family, not including the dogs (Maggie, Bonnie, and Nugget). In my free time, I’m most likely reading, listening to music, or half-watching tv while I try out some new craft. Lately, I’ve been doing some bookbinding, origami, button-making, cyanotype, crochet, making bookmarks, and gluing googly eyes onto things (mostly rocks).

Studied at…
I’m actually a W&M alum! I was a nontraditional student, and I recently finished my undergraduate degree in English. I fell in love with William & Mary’s campus pretty much immediately when I first came to visit back in high school. Who doesn’t love bricks, really old trees, and a strong sense of community?

Why W&M?
In many ways, I feel like Swem Library is the heart of William & Mary’s campus. So many students find comfort in having such a large and inviting space available to them. A really good library can feel like home, and I think Swem provides that. I also worked in the Circulation department as a student and loved the experience, whether it was shelving or delivering books across campus. I plan to get my master’s in library and information science, which is something that I’m not sure I would have considered if it hadn’t spent so much time here as a student.

  • book iconFun Facts…
I used to work in professional theatre, I can (poorly) play a few different instruments, and I’m the one who was leaving tiny origami cranes around the library for the last few years.

  • person iconMost frequently checked out library book…
The audiobook versions of Hank Green’s “An Absolutely Remarkable Thing” and “A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor” have been my go-to library check-outs for a while now. They got very creative with the production of the audiobooks (Hank even does some of the narration) and it’s always a good listen.

I really love finding new music, but I recently went to a concert for The Mountain Goats, so they’ve been on my mind.
