Since 2005, Swem Library's government information specialist Alan Zoellner has posted a blog that lists new and notable government documents. He recently posted the 10,000th blog entry!
Zoellner's blog has won many kudos from W&M faculty, staff, and students as well as from his professional colleagues at other universities. It's a great way to keep up with timely issues and to locate authoritative information.
The 10,000 blog posting features the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia's "2011-2012 Tuition and Fees at Virginia's State-Supported Colleges and Universities," a timely topic for many students and their parents.
Perhaps of greater interest (or greater reassurance) for those paying the bills for tuition and fees is a related recent item from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis entitled "Is a College Cap and Gown a Financial Ball and Chain?"
This short piece compares the opportunity cost of attending college with the earnings potential of high school and college graduates. It concludes that recent college graduates with federal student loans will earn enough by age 33 to cover the loan cost and match the earnings (to date) of those with just a high school diploma.
