ARTstor: Over 1 million Art and Architecture Images

One of Swem's newest research databases is ARTstor, a repository of more than 1 million digital art, architecture and natural history images from universities, archives, museums and private collections around the world. A complete list of organizations who have contributed collections is available online.

Some exciting recent collections include:

  • Over 150 images of paintings by Mark Rothko
  • Nearly 1,000 images of important architecture, cultural heritage sites, and monuments from the World Monuments Fund (WMF)
  • 7,200 images from the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University's permanent collection and photographic archives

Some of the great features available in ARTstor include:

  • Saving images to groups for presentation or to share with your class
  • Exporting images directly into Powerpoint presentations
  • Downloading high-quality versions of images
  • Use of the Images for Academic Publishing (IAP):  a collection of images that include approval for use in academic publishing

Try ARTstor out for yourself.
