A Conversation with Sean Carroll: Universities, Scholarship, and Open Access

Join us on Monday, March 12, from 2pm - 3pm, in the Swem Library Board Room on the 3rd floor as we engage Dr. Carroll in an informal conversation on open access, journal boycotts, and publishing for tenure.

Sean Carroll, the College's 2012 William Small Distinguished Lecturer, is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Physics at the California Institute of Technology.  His research interests include theoretical aspects of cosmology, field theory, and gravitation.  In addition to his work in cosmology, Dr.Carroll is the creator of Cosmic Variance, a blog for Discover Magazine, which explores topics in physics for the public as well as for other scientists.  Cosmic Variance is the site for lively discussions on topics from the universe to university life.

He is the author of a graduate-level textbook, Spacetime and Geometry:  An Introduction to General Relativity, as well as a set of Teaching Company lectures on dark matter and dark energy.  Dr. Carroll's new book, From Eternity to Here:  The Quest for the Ultimate Theory of Time, explores the relationship between entropy, cosmology, and the arrow of time.

The event is free and open to the campus community.
