April 4-10, 2021 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the essential role libraries play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. William & Mary Libraries is celebrating by spotlighting its partnership with the Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL).
This April marks the third year since W&M Libraries and WRL partnered to extend access to the collections at both library systems.
A formal partnership between the two libraries was signed in 2018, allowing anyone with a W&M ID card or a WRL card to check out resources from both institutions. This exciting venture has expanded the usage of each library to more people in the community.
W&M Libraries offers a wide variety of scholarly books, genealogy resources and research databases. WRL has extensive collections of popular books, DVDs, graphic novels, audio books and music streaming content. Library users have access to all of this and more!
The libraries have also partnered on a number of events, including its One Book, One Community program, an initiative that brings people together for a shared reading experience. The selection for this year's program was national bestseller Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi. The 2021 program included book clubs, lectures, and panel discussions, and culminated in a virtual book talk with author Jason Reynolds, which drew over 200 attendees.
This National Library Week, you can show your appreciation and support for libraries by following W&M Libraries and WRL on social media and using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek. There will be opportunities to engage with the libraries on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram throughout the week.
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.
